Yesterday brought more kind words for our debut CD,
this time from Calvin Powers of
Taproot Radio:
"Johnson County is a band based out of Washington
State which plays squarely in the alt.country without trying to dress
it up into anything it's not. 'Jesus Drives A Ford' is a great example
of their style. By the title and the opening verse you think the song
is going to be one of those novelty songs like Kinky Friedman or David
Alan Coe might sing, but by the end of it, the song turns out to be
a fairly serious and sentimental look at the oddities of life. But
if you want a great rabble rousing song, you can't do any better than
'Kiss My Ass Goodbye.'"
Calvin's adding four Johnson County songs to rotation
on his Taproot internet radio station on Live365.
There's a lot of great music going on over there at Taproot, so you
should check it out.
Thanks, Calvin!!

The CD is also getting some love right here at home.
Ray Randall, co-founder of the website
americanaroots.com included "Johnson County Blues" in the most
recent
Americana Roots Review Podcast (featuring "acts who represent
some of the best new music in Americana"). Check it out, because
it includes 4 other songs from 4 great bands you probably haven't
heard before. And it's a podcast, so you can download it and listen
to it whenever you want, and it's all free. (Or you can just stream
it over the internet if you aren't too sure about this whole podcast
business.)

Our CD is getting some more radio play - this time
in Europe. We're rocking Belgium from station ZRO, 106.2 FM, in Zelzate,
and the Netherlands from station Omroep Ijsselmond, 104.1 and 106.4
FM, in Kampen. The spins have included "Jesus Drives a Ford," "Good
Country Lovin'," and "Chimichanga." The Johnson County boys say "dank
u veer" to DJ's Mark
"Dr. B" Verbert, and Berrie Koetsier.
We have also come to the conclusion that the Dutch-speaking
world kicks ass, and we would seriously like to go there.

Today brought kind words from reviewer Dan Wilkinson
at AmericanaUK (our first CD review so far):
"The music that this disparate band of outcats
makes could broadly be described as alt-country. In reality the arrangements
are rock influenced alt-country up until the point that Paul Hsu plays
his alt-rock solos. Strangely this mix of styles works very well on
the whole. Johnson County is packed full of strong tunes and irreverent
lyrics."
We're not sure if he really meant to call us "outcats"
or if that was just a typo. But "outcats" sounds kind of
cool, doesn't it?
